Last week, in reference to a Supreme Court case involving Andy Warhol & his work based on a photo of my beloved Prince, Justice Clarence Thomas stated that he’d been a fan of Prince’s “in the 80’s” & continues to enjoy him “on Thursday nights.” Whatever that means!
I am always hesitant to come off like I am speaking for Prince. I never would presume to be able to! And while I didn’t necessarily agree with some beliefs that he espoused at some points in his lifetime, I also do not agree with the idea that some people have, that he was apolitical. And I get the sense that he wouldn’t have necessarily dug hearing the news that old Clarence was a fan? I didn’t dig hearing it! Because here’s the thing…how can you be a fan of someone who you’re clearly not listening to?
So, as promised on the pod, I made a Political Prince Playlist dedicated to Clarence Thomas. It’s not even ALL of Prince’s political songs, but it’s a start.
