This episode made me think of one of the most helpful things I've ever taken from a boss, which is the Grown Ups Rule. The Grown Ups Rule is as follows:
Grown ups ask for what they want, and grown ups don't get mad when they don't get what they didn't ask for.
It's obviously a bit oversimplified, BUT it is such a North Star for me. It is also one of the only two rules I have at my house. (The other is not to use the buzzer on the dryer because it really freaks out my dog.)
Unrelated, but I'd absolutely purchase merchandise that says, "Of course, there were haters."
