New to the full substack, and am super excited!!! Caissie. You are 100% my spirit animal!!!! I have "me too" responses to nearly every single good news and bad news entry in this tome, but I will spare you. I will just say that the good news today is that I financially subscribed, finally (I know, delayed reaction) to a couple of ladies I have come to adore and had the immense pleasure of relating to this little essay. Love you both and thanks for all the content!!!
I understand the maps on public trans bit. Im currently on my way to NYC from Philly and even though I come here several times a year, I DARE NOT EVER take the subway alone! I get so anxious and can never read that damn map. Back in my college days as a frequent visitor of NY, I took the train the wrong way, gotten off the wrong stop, AND got on the wrong train all by myself! 😂 I guess if I lived there I would get used to it but the subways in Philly literally only go in 3 directions! (And full dis-closhe I live 10 min outside of Philly and never take those either)
Oof Caissie, I’m so sorry! I really feel your transportation woes rn. The bad news is I had a seizure in May - out of nowhere at 35, yay! - and I’m not allowed to drive for 6 months. (How is Lincoln doing w/the seizures btw?? This ordeal has made me think of him several times. It is a JOURNEY but that’s a story for another day.)
Also bad news is Atlanta’s public transit options are… not great, and learning to navigate my commute has been a struggle. I have to take a bus, a train, and a shuttle, and as you learned, the timing is so stressful!
The good news is I’m just grateful I even have this option, bc the bus stops are usually a hike from residential areas. (But also good news, I happen to live a 5 min. walk from a major college/hospital.)
And more good, very lucky news is that my work let me start wfh 3 days a week. 🙏
Sorry for the novel, and I’m sending you all the good vibes in getting your family’s cars (/lives) back, Caissie!!
Lauren! I'm so sorry that happened to you. It's really scary, I know. Thank you for asking about Lincoln. He just passed his year anniversary with every EEG he's been through showing improvement over the last. His doc says, when he is ready, he can get his driving permit again & even his license eventually, but he would like him to stay off the freeways for another year. So, progress, but not completely free to do whatever just yet? I'm glad you have an excellent outlook on the challenges of public transport & that you're rolling with it the best you can. And congratulations on your job agreeing to let you have some flexibility. They must really value having you on their team.
Oh Caissie! I wish I could buy you the car of your dreams! That was a real nail biter and I am glad you made it home to your warm root beer (and now, I too want a root beer! But cold). I was happy to hear you did not have hot, wet, stretched out jeans on this time and considered this to be a bit of good news for you. XO
HAHA! Thank you, Rebecca! The car of my dreams is really only one that 1) works & isn't a danger to me, my family or my fellow drivers 2) Is a hybrid or hybrid/electric because of climate change and 3) Isn't silver, LOL! It'll all work out, eventually, I am sure. I hope you are doing well! xoxo
WOOF Caissie. That’s a real journey. May I recommend you (and all reading) get one of these and throw it in your backpack? Even if IT is dead, you can usually find a wall outlet at McDonald’s or the car place or wherever and re-charge it. It’s nice and small and the cords fold into it as well. It’s saved my butt SO many times. <3 Sending good car repair vibes!!
Ohhh goodness gracious!! That’s a lot! I think I would have cried and panicked at the post office phase of your journey!
Good news- I get to add Drama to my teaching schedule this year!
Bad news - school is starting and I’ll be spending my weekend with all the back to school feelings. They never go away people, even when you’re the teacher.
Good news - more $$
Bad news- I will not have any breaks in the day, other than the 20 min lunch where I will spend in line for the bathroom, then the microwave….. then…. ahh!!
Good news - I have a job and I am thankful. I’ve worked hard to figure shit out and I’m glad it’s all falling into place.
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!! Good, bad and the ugly! 😘
The good news is I found out yesterday my student loans, which were large and vast and seemingly insurmountable, were cancelled!!! I cried on the phone with the lovely service rep who confirmed this news, because I am highly suspicious and thought my 0 balance online had to be an error.
The bad news is that I had an argument with my seven year old last night during bed time (I hate to argue with my kid before bed. HATE IT) which resulted in both of us crying.
The good news is we resolved it and read Magic Treehouse together and when I came downstairs my husband handed me a hard cider and said, “you’re doing a great job.”
I love you all and thank sweet baby Jesus it is Friday ❤️
What a great good news/bad news post! Congratulations on that student loan relief. And on being a great mom. And on a husband handing you a hard cider. All worthy of celebration.
Good news is my husband finally got the raise he’s been expecting- for like two years! Bad news is we have these little tiny ants in our house (smaller than sugar ants) and last night we found some in our bed. Not good. Figured out where they were coming from and cut them off at the pass which is good news. Bad news is they will likely find another place to congregate. Good news is, at least they aren’t termites.
OMG in your bed??? Dove, would you like some ant advice you could maybe try? I don't want to give it unless you want it & no guarantees it will work, but I swear by it!
Ok, so go to Target or the grocery store & get a box of Borax powder. It's in the laundry section. It's cheap! It'll also be labeled "laundry booster" etc. That's fine, it's the right thing, just make sure it also says "Borax". Bring it home & mix the Borax with anything sticky/sweet you have - corn syrup, honey...you can even make your own sugar water on the stove, but I like anything that is thicker so it doesn't run everywhere. A 1-to-1 ratio is usually what I shoot for, but a bit more or less on either end probably is ok. Then, you can either put it in a container with holes poked in it big enough for the kind of ants you have to get into OR, you can just pool it on a piece of tinfoil. That's what I do, because honestly I don't want to present any challenges to the ants in getting to it. Here's the gross part. Put it on the floor or counter near where you saw ants. The ants will then probably, hopefully, swarm onto it to enjoy it. But not only do they eat it, they also carry some back to their colony. Within a couple of days, that colony should be no more. And the good news is, you have a whole box of Borax to repeat the process if a new ant team invades. Or, if you don't need it for that, it really is good when you wash your laundry, LOL!
I’ll definitely try that! You’re right about the key being something that they bring back to the colony. We don’t want to use traditional pesticides. We got a spray with rosemary and clove oil which I think deters them but doesn’t do the mass ant genocide necessary. On my way to get Borax, thanks Caissie!!
What a day for you! I hope carvana steps up and fixes the issue. So they do not offer some time of rental car service or loaner car while your car is being worked? Especially since it sounds like the car had issues at the get go. I would ask about a rental car… even if it’s the cheapest car it’s a car with ac they are paying for. 🧐 hope tomorrow is a better day for you.
The coverage we purchased through them DOES offer a car rental reimbursement while it is being repaired. Unfortunately, it hasn't been in for repairs yet, it's been sitting waiting for estimates at various repair centers, the first of which declined to work on it. I hope everything turns out alright too. Crossing my fingers!!!
I can’t believe we were both on the mean, hellfire streets of LA trying to mail Poshmark. My 2-day quest involved label printing @ FedEx (you can print by email!/if verification code arrives) and USPS (easy parking!/no free box). Kind of stressful but that puppy is on its way! I may be done with Poshmark.

I lived in NYC for years & would still routinely get lost of public transportation.
Also, I ended up taking the NRQ downtown and everything was completely fine 🤣
Hahaha that makes me feel better!
Caissie - perfect for this day! https://www.instagram.com/p/ChS9AE-sDs8/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= 🍟🍟🍟
HAHAHA!!!
My favourite part of this whole story was, “This is where I live now”. 😂
HAHA! I could get used to anywhere, I bet.
And that is why we love you Caissie! ❤️
I love you too, Karmel!
xoxo

Just sending love and hugs ! ❤️
Thanks, Linday. I will take them!
Oh Caissie, thank you for sharing your saga with us. I would watch the short film if this any day!
HA! I felt a little bit like I was in a movie, Jade! Or an episode of Punk'd, LOL!

What a sweet husband! Student loan debt forgiveness people…… please call me next!! 💕
What a great good news/bad news post! Congratulations on that student loan relief. And on being a great mom. And on a husband handing you a hard cider. All worthy of celebration.
OMG! Thankfully you're home safe. Thanks for sharing this truly awful day. You are a warrior!
HA! I actually didn't successfully accomplish the thing apparently three kinda old ladies seem to do every day? But I tried, LOL!
What a journey you went on that day, geez! 💕

Poshmark is, no joke, an entire job. I hope I get better at it, LOL!
What a rollercoaster of a day for you Caissie! 💖
Good news: I got a new client, which means new $$ and new projects
Bad news: I got so freakin' stressed about doing a good job for new client - self-doubt, why do you plague me so?!
I don't doubt you, Jules. You got this!
