I listened to this podcast and Hollywood 2 and then Kelly Corrigan Wonders came on with an interview with Jewel from PBS. I love Kelly Corrigan and I did NOT know this much about Jewel. But, she speaks to so much of what was discussed in this podcast and she is amazing. I think anyone would want to listen to this. Absolutely amazing example of a young person finding her own way despite all the horrid ways she was treated. I had no idea! And doing so much for young people like Abdi’s books.

Proposal for Hollywood 2: Atlanta. I know. I know I know I know. But hear me out. Atlanta is very different from the rest of Georgia, which means we're not well represented in our state government. If Atlanta had more numbers, we might be able to finally pull the rest of the state (and other southeastern cities) into the light. Imagine what could happen if a bunch of smart, creative, loud women showed up and started influencing stuff. We already have a fair amount of film and TV infrastructure to get you started because the state provides a generous tax break for production projects. If male-run, male-benefiting media corporations are taking advantage of this, why shouldn't newer, female-run businesses grab hold of the same perks? To boot, the city of Atlanta provides tax breaks to minority and female owned businesses -- a little something to make up for the era when our systems didn't serve women and minorities very well. Atlanta is extremely diverse, including our leaders. Our mayors have been people of color for longer than I've been alive. Our current city council is roughly: 70% black+brown, 30% women, and 20% LGBTQIA. It's a major US city with one of the most efficiently-run airports in the world and offers more direct flights than most US airports. We're lacking in transit but so is LA and some of us here are really working on that. We get four distinct seasons (for now), and we're known as "The City in the Forest" because we love our trees so much. I know it gets pretty hot for a couple of months, but literally everywhere is air-conditioned. People think we don't support the arts because in the 1960s, nearly all of our wealthy art patrons were killed in a plane crash in Orly, France. But that just means our art institutions aren't as strong as those in other cities. Culturally, however, art rules here. One example: our version of the Highline, The BeltLine, is actually a 22-mile loop and permanently attached to a nonprofit, Art On The BeltLine, that funds and executes one of the largest, ongoing, outdoor, art exhibits in the country with long and short term installations and performances. I could go on. All the ingredients are here just waiting for women (and queer people, and even more people of color) who know what they're doing to swoop in and take it. Come do it! Please!!! PLEASE?!?!?!?!

Woohoo for names! I had a cat named Easter and a rat named Jupiter. And I also got to name a cow once so she was Cornflake. Tori songs make the best names for animals!
