Listening to this one a few weeks late and found it really helpful. Does anyone have the link to what Busy shared that was helpful in coping with the distressing things we're seeing online and in the news? It's referenced around minute 24 and once earlier. Thank you!

Hooray! I’m finished. Got my last vaccination today. It was a four shot year, Flu, Covid, Pneumonia, and RSV. Didn’t get them all at once, just in case there were side effects, but aside from a little arm soreness, so far, so good. Yes, I might be a sheep, but I’m a live old sheep. Also, if any of these end up turning me into a zombie during the next emergency system test, I hope I get to be one of the agile fast moving zombies like in “World War Z” and not a slow shuffling zombie like in “Walking Dead”.

Finally catching up! I've really enjoyed the last 3 episodes. However, I'd listen on Sunday and before I could send in a comment, Monday would come and I'd just get busy. Last week, I did have some time carved out on Sunday, but in an attempt to get one last bloom sequence out of my carnations, i decided to deadhead them in the morning. Got distracted and snipped off a tiny bit of my fourth finger. It's fine, my new nickname is not "Stumpy" and I can still count to 10. In reality I snipped off a bit of skin about the size of two grains of rice. But you know how it is. My response was hindered by the fact that I'm left handed for everything I do, with the exception of using scissors or shears. My brain could only figure out how they work using my right hand. So when I snipped off the bit of finger, it meant that I couldn't use the hand that I usually use to do things. i mean, who would have thought that opening the Neosporin or a bandaid would be so hard to do with your non-dominant hand. Additionally, the missing bit of finger was on the very tip of my finger which, at least for me, is the most difficult part of my anatomy to get a bandaid to cover and then stick to. I finally got things handled and got the bathroom cleaned up and then went to Target to get some better bandaids and stuff, but then since my finger was sore and the part of the finger where the wound was was on the part that hits the keys when I type, I just got further behind. But at least, in the bigger scheme of things, if that's the biggest problem I have, I'm doing ok.

A lot has happened in the last two weeks. I've once again turned off almost all my notifications as during times like this the news media, in my opinion, is not very reliable. I wish they would understand that "fast" is not better than "good" when it comes to reporting stuff as "fast" tends to bring a lot of inaccuracy with it. It's also discouraging that so many organizations and individuals use events like we've had in the last few weeks to try and forward their point of view and spread inaccuracy and conjecture. So every morning I take a breath and just go through my news feeds. The thing that I truly wish for these days is that there was a rule as to how long something could be called "Breaking News". There are some pretty old stories in my feeds being called "Breaking News" and often they are inaccurate as they have been overcome by events.

Caissie, I truly enjoyed the pictures of your swap and I'm glad it was a success. I have to admit that I was most relived when your first stories were posted and I could see blue skies in the background. But it was a treat to see people attending a swap and seeing them smile and have a good time. It's the kind of thing that lifts my spirits and I do appreciate it.

Busy, I'm glad you got to visit Birdie and you truly are amazing. If i would have done a weekend round trip to Sweden, I'd still be trying to recover. I also loved the picture of the pug pots.

And finally, as Caissie requested, I'll note that I'm a happy Lume Products user. I'll note that recently they've started a line for men. I was a bit disappointed that instead of just listing on their website, they market it separately on a website called Mando. To me this whole divide up things as what's for men and what's for women is just confusing. There are times when you'll find me just wandering around Target until I figure out that the shampoo I'm looking for has been designated as being for women and so I was in the wrong section of the store. Just dumb. But I will agree that the Lume (and Mando) products work well and I'd add my recommendation.

As to what I'm doing my best at, I think this fall, it's been a season of patience and willpower. I'm the kind of person who no matter the season will at least crack a window open in the morning for a while just to get some new air in the house. I also like the feeling of the cool air blowing across my face. When fall comes, I get to leave the windows open for longer and this is what happens. Around 8:30am, the barbecue place down the road lights its smokers. Due to the topography and prevailing winds in the area, this smoke comes up the hill to my area and into my house. At first, it's just smoke and a bit irritating. But as the food starts to cook, that aroma comes into my house. I've been trying to eat better lately and the smell of their cooking sure makes it hard. But it's finally cooled down and I've had to close the windows sooner, so it's not as big of a problem as it was.

The other issue I've had this fall is with "monkey balls". Maybe not what you think when you hear those words. There are black walnut trees around my house. Every one of them is just over the property line and so there's not much I can do to them. But every fall, the black walnut pods, what we in Pittsburgh call Monkey Balls, drop on my roof. It's loud, unexpected and this year we're having a banner crop. It's finally slowing down, to less than 20 in a day now, but there for a while, it was a lot and it's a lot of patience to just have to take it.

So that's all. Patience and willpower. Turn off your phones now and then and take a break from the news. Try and find trustworthy sources for news and make sure that experts they present are truly experts and are independent and not just telling them what they want to hear.

And as always, get your shots. I'll finish mine this Tuesday. I ended up getting them all separately this year. Not because I was worried about getting them all at once, but due availability. This is a four shot year, Covid, Flu, RSV and Pneumonia. I swear, I the last time I had this many shots I was a babe in arms.

Oh and one more thing I'll be using patience and willpower on during the next period. My window for signing up for medicare opens on November 1st. You'd think this would be an easier process.

As always, be kind to each other.

I am not sure where to suggest this but as I was listening to your episode, which I followed up with JVN’s episode on Dax and Monica’s AE, I couldn’t help but think that comedian Carolyn Taylor “I have nothing” would be a great guest! Love this show - it is continuing to get me through some low times. Thanks Caissie and Busy!

Also JVN would be too! The link is he talked about figure skating and “I Have Nothing” is about a figure skating related pivot for Carolyn. Highly recommend!

Caissie!! The “notes” (as I call them) about things being done around the house.... I parent a remarkable 7 year old and as I am trying to teach her skills and responsibility sometimes I tell myself to SHUP UP ALREADY (internally!) I can hear how I sound to her as I give her “notes” and I’m like “yeah not helpful” ... Hearing your explanation and discussion was so helpful. And of course so many other point of laughter and wisdom in the episode. So much appreciation and love xo

I loved this episode so much! I am now so intrigued by Quantum Entanglement and really appreciated the thoughtful convos about the current state of the world and not judging our loved ones. I especially appreciated the part about feeling all the feelings but not letting them pull you under, especially as a mom. I have been reflecting on this a lot in my own life! I think it is such a fine balance to stay open and not get overwhelmed but also not to go numb - bc then you are numb to the good stuff too!

The conversation about not judging someone for doing something differently than you would truly hit home. With my children I learned a long time ago that I couldn’t expect them to do things as I would, but with my husband hearing the pod I realized that I likely do carry judgment when he does things I think I could have done “better”, but really just differently. I realized too that it happens even when he makes a mistake. I begin to think he is less than because why else would this have happened. What a light bulb moment to my own failings and thank goodness I renewed my subscription because you guys definitely deserve pay for that therapy session.

Yes, that is exactly what I was trying to articulate, Shelly. So glad it came through. I hope my family listens so they know I don't mean to be a pain in the ass, LOL!

I have to constantly remind my husband that his way is not better it's just a different way. There are multiple ways to get a task done and still have the same outcome. But of course all my ways are the correct one. (J/K 😜).
