I need to ask myself - are we the same person Caissie ?

I too, adore those Trader Joe's shortbread raspberry filled cookies - so much so that I can eat them in a single sitting. Is it during my period ? Not exactly. Is it anytime that I see them in TJ's that I pick them up? Yes, yes it is. In fact, I have to limit myself and not purchase them every time because I have no self control. I have a spidey sense when someone has eaten one or if someone is approaching. I will yell our to my husband or kiddo "do not touch my cookies" like some gosh darn monster.

I never thought of putting my night tums in a pretty little bowl next to my bed and will now do so. I have always gotten up like a zombie, barely awake, searching for my reprieve from the dreaded heartburn.

Thank you very much Caissie for this very solid advice. I have been greatly enjoying this substack. I didn't even know this was a thing until the pod and I can never go back.

My period cookie is also from TJ's (I do love yours too Caissie), I just love the Dark Chocolate Covered Honey Grahams with Sea Salt. They are great for periods & also for migraines when I need a little chocolate fix.

I hope Eli heals quickly!

I've just recently been diagnosed with acid reflux & the "life changes" I've had to make in order to combat it have actually been helpful so I just thought I'd share with the group in case anyone else may benefit. The two best things that have helped is that I don't eat close to when I go to bed (at least 2 hours before -- 3 is even better), and after eating I stay upright (again for 2-3 hours minimum). This has really been reducing the middle of the night acid attacks. I also take tums when those two don't work together (and when I eat something I shouldn't but really want to anyway).

Ok... Three things:

1. In line with my acid reflux I had to find a mint-free toothpaste, no easy task. For a while I was using a kid's blueberry toothpaste which was fine, then I forgot to re-up and switched to using my husband's mint toothpaste for a bit, but then was having bad feelings at night again. I just found a mint-free toothpaste for adults! It is coconut strawberry & very nice, I've never enjoyed brushing my teeth this much!

2. Got my medical test results back that I posted about on Caissie's last Three Little Things & mostly they are looking good & not immediately scary which is great. It's been an anxiety riddled journey that started with assessing my migraines (10+ years of them) and ended up searching in my Kidneys (don't ask). I am ok, and feeling better about it all.

3. I had an event for work that was canceled but then they rescheduled & restructured for covid safety reasons & hired me back to cook for the smaller event. I was really proud of the work I did & just saw the client again today & they told me everything was delicious & everyone was so happy with the food. It meant the world to me to get back the positive review. If anyone here wants to look at my cooking, you can see it on instagram @happyspatulas (including the food from this event!).

xoxo to all 💕

I love these 3 things posts! I am also a salty snacks person during my period but I do love me a frozen peppermint patty.

My three things:

1) I recently wrote a somewhat negative review about a sectional I purchased over a year ago (it was in response to the company asking me for a review). I love the idea of the company - sustainable, closed loop recycling, woman POC owned - but the sectional itself has had some issues. Anyway, TLDR, their customer service reached out and sent me new pillow inserts and a contraption that fixed one of the things that was janky. And now the sectional is wayyyy more comfy!

2) I discovered a new delightful show: “We Are Lady Parts” on Peacock. It’s only 6 episodes, and each ep is ~25 min so I’m already done but it’s so good! Highly recommend!

3) I saw Marcel the Shell w/ my husband and kid on Sunday and while I don’t want to oversell - it might be my favorite movie - certainly in the top ten. It’s funny, beautiful, profound, life affirming...I could go on but I will just say that it gave me hope for this world and reminded me of the importance of artists making art that can truly impact your life. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Three things...

1. I have not one, not 2, but 3! boxes of Trader Joe’s Raspberry Stars in my pantry at this moment. These are the best cookies you can buy. *shoutout to my fave oatmeal, chocolate chip, pecan cookies- I still love you too.

What Caissie didn't mention is that these babies are seasonal only so when I see them, I stock up. The spring version is Trader Joe’s Raspberry Flowers (allegedly, I have never seen nor eaten this variety), and Trader Joe’s Raspberry Hearts for Valentine's Day. These are a delight with tea or with cocoa or just all on their own. Caissie, if you have some secret connection (ahem) and are getting these cookies monthly, I envy and admire you.

2. It's a new moon this week and I am ready for a reset. New moon mantra for those who manifest:

"I use the heart-centered energies of the Leo new moon to stand in my POWER, align with my authentic self, and bring EASE into my body." Set this as your intention and speak it into the universe on JUL 28.

3. The BPIDHB group chat I joined/created with a few other local ladies. Progressive and brilliant women in red states need like minded friends. If you are not in a group chat, grabs some friends from here and make it happen. It's great to have a chat with folks who get it and who are committed to hyping each other up.

I love that your group chat is going STRONG, Ami! My connection & ability to get TJ cookies isn't that special that I could get them when they're not available to everyone else, but when they are available, I am privileged to have someone bring them to me, LOL!

I love the laundry drawer idea. We have tons of things, some gooey, piled on top of our dryer and it’s not my favorite. Very cluttered.

Post hysterectomy I don’t have periods, but I still have ovaries that keep me pre menopause for now so I have this strange faux “period”. I crave creamy: ice cream, yogurt or sometimes I just spray whipped topping in my mouth haha.

My week was dominated by Covid recovery. I can finally taste and smell again, and taking a shower is not a major endeavor. So I am appreciating all the little things so much. Smelling my dogs head (it’s great smell). Tasting the kiwi’s my husband brought me. The vaccine... I can’t imagine what my experience would have been like without it.

Love the tums idea. I take meds as well that give me heartburn as well as other genetic factors and I probably have GERD but am just not ready for prescription antacids. My doc is on board with this plan as well.

I'm currently obsessed with the ginger cookies from TJ. They have just the right level of chewiness and aren't super sweet, which makes it too easy to eat too many :)

Quick question: is that kale or some such roughage on the nachos? Is that to justify having nachos, because in my book, nachos need no justification?!

Caissie St.Onge's avatar

It is kale & cauliflower. Some people just like vegetables, LOL???

Not criticizing, I love kale & cauli and will look up nachos recipes shortly. Just making sure nobody feels like they ever have to justify nachos! 😁

I make nachos for some of my clients with sweet potatoes & cauliflower as the base! Then I put a mix of beans & ground meat (or vegan meat) on top with mushrooms & allllll the cheese. It's delish!

It was a really, really tough week last week, so thank you for this prompt to remember the things that got me through it.

1. Jenny Slate on the pod! Obvious Child is my comfort watch du jour, and I'm obsessed with Little Weirds, so I literally HOLLERED when I got my notification that I got to hear her talk (on a three-hour podcast) with y'all!

2. I got to have my bestie over, and I made delicious breakfast tacos and passionfruit mimosas for us to share.

3. Rap Shit on HBO. I've really been missing Insecure, and I really enjoyed the first two episodes of this.
