Thank you for being there for all of our rights. Reverend Barber was the confirmation from your great, great grandfather- this is part of your destiny to not let others make choices that don’t benefit the greater good.
Love this! I read this today whilst I was on my lunch break and I was a little late as I couldn’t stop reading. I will admit I got slightly emotional reading some parts.. mainly because I am a hormonal mess at the minute…
Thank you for sharing this with us.. I’ve been a ‘free’ subscriber since Bear on a wire was launched but then I thought f@*$ it, I’ve just been paid and I am only going to waste money on coffees etc.. so here I am.. a paid subscriber
Thanks again Busy for sharing your story. You really are making a massive difference
Loved all of this (although I accidentally read pt 2 before pt 1 because I thought I had already read pt 1, but I had not.) You make me want to get more involved! Hard to do down here in SC, but obviously, this is where it's most important. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for sharing the behind the scenes. It is maddening that even protest can be privileged when I think back to hearing stories of Mom Groups getting in between police and protestors to protect them. Their experience was quite different as you know. Not to belittle what you do, because you did a great job of highlighting the two different justice/ protest systems we have. Plus, you are doing it. You recognize your privilege, and just move forward.
Equality is right... in every fucking aspect. Why is it a hard concept for some people? Because they are cowards afraid of losing power. So we jump through these strange hoops for something that was already granted to us when we were born. Equality.
Thank you to you and Cassie for your amazing pod, which is always the right length.
Busy, thank you for this! Profound and funny as usual. I have loved listening to your story about your radical Episcopal Priest Grandfather! I want everyone to know the Episcopal Church supports the right to abortion to anyone who needs it.
This was well worth the wait! So much of it made me smile but somehow you work these nuggets of real truth and wisdom in there too, so I go from laughing to thoughtful in an instant.
Also: " It was an easy decision to make (MUCH LIKE MY OWN ABORTION)." YEP. Of course people are allowed to feel whatever feelings they have about their abortion, but for a lot of people (myself included), it was a simple decision. There was never any emotional struggle. No guilt or grief. Only relief. So thank you for standing up (or should I say sitting down, on butt-burning pavement no less!) for such an important, basic right <3
Your writing has such voice! I always love to read it. Thanks for writing about this experience. Personally, I loved hearing the less glamorous background of the arrests. A protest is something I’ve never been a part of, and it was fascinating to hear the ins and outs. Thank you for always being YOU!
Wow what a day! Ok first of all, thank you for sharing all the prep info, like the writing numbers on you, getting on a list so they can find you if you get arrested, etc. It didn’t take away from the story and helped demystify things (for me, at least. I’ve never participated in a major protest).
Secondly (and more importantly), wow. Just wow. What a wild day - it honestly sounds exhilarating and emotional. It’s making me want to protest too!!
Lastly, the look on Alexis McGill Johnson’s face in the group photo with her arms in the air. All your faces are saying the same thing, but I love seeing “we did it!!!” on her.
I dunno, I’m rambling on. Short version, I loved this post -- you paint a very vivid picture (even without the photos!!) and it’s just making me want to do the same next time there are protests happening here on an issue close to my heart (I’m in Montreal, Canada)
So fiercely proud of you for putting your butt on the line, Busy. It's scary to leap into the unknown, even if someone tells you that you've got a parachute on your back. You did that! Thank you!
Thank you for going and representing those of us unable to be there in person. Also I love your footnotes.
Phenomenal story telling. Even better demonstration. Thank you. All of you!!

Amazing!
Rock on, Busy. Thank you!

How amazing that all of this was accomplished in just one very full day in your very full life!❤️🥂❤️

I want to shout out that DIVA CUP! Holy sh*t - please share the brand. 🤣 I would’ve looked like I was hemorrhaging all over the hot ass ground!
Loved everything about this! 💚
Thank you so much for sharing your story, and for always standing up and fighting! 💚
