It’s pretty common in Nordic countries for people to take shoes off when you enter the house (see weather conditions). But as a result everyone has guest slippers to hand out.

We have them for when we have overnight guests for warm feet on our wooden/tiled floors - they are washable so you just throw them in the machine and hey presto ready for next guests!
